Leavitt defeated fellow 2023 prospect Jaden Rashada to secure the position after making enough of an impression on Sun Devils head coach Kenny
Dillingham during ASU’s spring practice. Rashada has now accessed the transfer portal as a consequence. Leavitt made four appearances for Michigan State
last season as a true freshman, starting and finishing 15 of 23 passes (65.2%) for 139 yards and two touchdowns. With his running abilities, he also
brought another dimension to the Spartans’ offense, gaining 67 yards on 13 carries. Leavitt stayed in East Lansing during the 2023 season, even though MSU
was looking for a new head coach at the time due to the Mel Tucker controversy. But when the Spartans brought on Jonathan Smith, as Leavitt
the Oregonian who won the 2022 Gatorade Player of the Year, had earlier felt betrayed by the former head coach of Oregon State by not being given a
scholarship offer. But there was a reason Smith hadn’t extended an offer to Leavitt. Aidan Chiles, a different 2023 quarterback, was the target of Oregon
State. Chiles was recruited by Smith and his team during the previous year’s cycle, and the two have since reconnected at Michigan State. Chiles and
Leavitt, both former four-star recruits, are anticipated to start for their respective new colleges.
