Photos show the car being built at Kar-Kraft in Detroit and Bud Moore Engineering in South Carolina before arriving in Australia, making its debut at Sandown, and being readied (and repaired) at Moffat’s own
facility in Melbourne. All of the important participants in the car’s amazing race history give firsthand accounts, many for the first time, adding depth to the iconic car and driver’s brilliant and often contentious
story. The large-format book delves into the technical secrets that made the Trans-Am Mustang the most advanced racing sedan of its day, as disclosed by engineer Lee Dykstra, who was in charge of the Mustang’s design and construction at Kar-Kraft.
More than two dozen people were interviewed exclusively for the book, including Don Gibb, who arranged the groundbreaking Coca-Cola sponsorship, Coke executive David Maxwell, who closed the deal, and hardworking AMR mechanics Barry Nelson, Peter
Thorn, Ian Lees, John Myers, Lou Mallia, and Ray Cutchie. The Boss also features chapters detailing Moffat’s ascent to popularity in Australia and America, exposing previously unknown details about
his early career, interspersed with Allan’s own candid recollections. A race-by-race analysis of the Mustang’s six-year history from its first race in 1969 to its last in 1975 establishes the car’s amazing record.
